AgWeatherNet Weekly Weather Outlook for June 21 to June 27, 2021

Warm and dry conditions continuing

Mark Ingalls, AgWeatherNet Intern

Synopsis:

Monday is expected to be the warmest day of the work week with temperatures moderating somewhat Tuesday through Thursday. In Western Washington, onshore flow is expected to be enough to introduce low level clouds into interior areas, especially during the morning hours. Elsewhere, look for above average temperatures. Friday leading into the weekend, upper level ridging builds over the region to produce what may be the hottest heat wave so far in 2021.

Discussion:

Temperatures are expected to cool modestly Tuesday through Thursday with a bit more onshore flow. Rain is not expected, but low level stratus may make it as far as Interstate 5 some mornings. Outside of areas that benefit from cloud cover, temperatures are expected to remain above average during this period with highs in Southwest Washington lowlands not getting below 80 degrees and Eastern Washington lowlands staying well in the 90s.

The Pacific Northwest falls under the influence of a strengthening ridge beginning Friday. This is forecast to lead to a significant warming trend that may end up bringing the hottest temperatures observed so far in 2021 through the weekend for parts of the state. Highs in Western Washington away from the water and south of Seattle are likely to reach into the 90s. East of the Cascades, most are expected to reach above 100 degrees with temperatures possibly nearing 105 for Spokane and even warmer conditions in lower elevations.

Current indications are that this heatwave will last into next week and possibly strengthen. It is too early to reasonably discuss specific high and low temperatures, but there is a chance that a few records may be broken throughout the region.
