AgWeatherNet Weekly Weather Outlook for July 21 to July 27, 2018

Warm Yet Comfortable on Saturday; Another Heat Wave Begins Next Week

Nic Loyd, Meteorologist, 509-786-9357

Hopefully you can enjoy the relatively pleasant Saturday morning, which is set to occur courtesy of a weak system passing to our north. Unfortunately, the weather will go downhill from there, which is to say uphill in terms of temperatures. Following a somewhat seasonal Saturday, a major warming trend shall commence thereafter, as strong high pressure builds back across the region. For much of the state, temperatures may continue to climb into at least the middle of next week, before perhaps leveling off late in the period. Western Washington could see a slight cooling trend late next week, while the coast should be largely spared from any prolonged or excessive heat.

However, central Washington sites are likely to eventually surpass 100 degrees by mid next week, while highs in the east climb well into the 90s. Apart from the hot conditions, the main story looks to be a continuation of largely rain-free weather. Aside from periodic marine clouds at the coast and perhaps in interior western areas at night, it is expected to be rather sunny, albeit potentially hazy due to smoke. There should be light breezes at times, but no major, widespread wind events are anticipated at present. Overall, after Saturday, uncomfortably hot and persistently dry weather is expected for most folks for the foreseeable future.

Key Points:

  • Warm but rather seasonal on Saturday.
  • Becoming hotter into early next week, with excessive heat likely persisting east of the Cascades into at least next weekend.
  • The coast should be mainly spared from excessive heat.
  • Mostly dry, with light breezes at times.
  • Continuing high fire danger, with heat and water stress issues for crops and people.
  • Possibly deteriorating air quality and visibility due to smoke and haze from active or new fires.

Temperatures

  • Becoming hotter into early to mid next week.
  • Possibly cooler in the west late in the period, but remaining hot in the east.
