AgWeatherNet Weekly Weather Outlook for June 30 to July 6, 2018

Seasonal This Weekend; From Cool and Unsettled to Hot and Dry Next Week

Nic Loyd, Meteorologist, 509-786-9357

A weak and flat high pressure ridge will give way to zonal upper level air flow later on Saturday. As a result, rather seasonal conditions are anticipated. Warm temperatures and periodic westerly breezes can be expected, along with a chance of showers in northwestern Washington.

Eventually, a deepening low pressure trough to our north looks to approach the region later this weekend. As the trough moves over the state early next week, cooler and unsettled conditions are predicted. Widespread winds are set to persist, as shower chances increase, although many areas outside of western and northern Washington could remain mostly dry.

Later in the period, the trough is likely to retrograde significantly westward to a position over the ocean. Its retreat may allow a portion of a major high pressure heat dome across the Desert Southwest to infiltrate the Northwest. The consequence should be increasing warmth, especially in the east. The main impacts would likely be felt near the end of the outlook interval, as hot temperatures return, along with dry and calmer weather. Overall, it appears that this pattern could be conducive to the heat mostly avoiding the coast due to onshore flow. In any case, enjoy the next several days, since summer could return in full force in less than one week.
