AgWeatherNet Weekly Weather Outlook for May 19 to May 25, 2018

Pleasant on Saturday; Heat Wave Possible Next Week

Nic Loyd, Meteorologist, 509-786-9357

The forecaster woes of split flows and cut off lows continue today, as an abnormal atmospheric circulation pattern looks to persist in the coming days. Although the most recent model runs are in better agreement, the poor consistency and continuity of late still diminishes the overall forecast confidence level.

Hopefully you can enjoy the delightful Saturday conditions, since another heat wave is possible next week. Aside from a slight chance of showers and light breezes, warm yet tolerable temperatures are expected this weekend.

However, Saturday should mark the beginning of a warming trend, as hot, mainly dry, and largely benign weather is anticipated for next week. The heat may peak in the mid to late week time frame, with the usual caveats applying, including an early zenith for the coast and for daytime highs, and a later maximum for eastern areas and/or morning lows.

A marginally cooler and potentially more unsettled pattern could bring some relief by the end of the outlook period. Otherwise, the main question for this interval involves whether isolated showers and slightly unstable weather continues into next week as depicted by a subset of the available (and conflicting) model runs. In any case, warmer than normal temperatures and largely uneventful conditions are forecast for the coming days, although the weather may be changeable and slightly unsettled at times.
