AgWeatherNet Weekly Weather Outlook for September 16 to September 22, 2017

Cool and Unsettled Weather on the Way

Nic Loyd, Meteorologist, 509-786-9357

It is my pleasure to finally report that, for the first time in a long time, intervals of below normal temperatures and above normal precipitation are likely in the coming days. The weekend will start on a dry note, as a cool Saturday morning transitions to a pleasant afternoon. Increasing clouds on Sunday are anticipated to give way to rain chances spreading from west to east late on Sunday. Early next week looks unsettled, with clouds, showers, and breezes at times. It should also be quite crisp, with isolated instances of high temperatures below 60 degrees, and a few low temperatures in the 30s. The high peaks are even expected to receive some snowfall, as raw and cold conditions return to the mountains.

Later in the period, forecast uncertainty grows, as slightly warmer and drier weather is possible. However, some model solutions are showing another disturbance dropping into the region. In any case, this notable pattern change is good news for the wildfire situation. It is too early in the autumn for this sort of weather to linger indefinitely, but it is highly unlikely that any more extended hot spells will occur in 2017.
