AgWeatherNet Weekly Weather Outlook for April 1 to April 7, 2017

Slightly Unsettled This Weekend; From Cool to Warm Next Week

Nic Loyd, Meteorologist, 509-786-9357

Hopefully folks will enjoy the drier, albeit slightly unsettled, conditions during the next few days, since wet weather seems poised to return later next week. Saturday looks to be a rather pleasant and mild day for many areas, notwithstanding a few western showers and eastern breezes. However, cooler air should infiltrate the region on Sunday, as isolated frost chances arise on Monday and Tuesday mornings. Despite the chilly nights, the briefly drier and calmer conditions are likely to allow for nice afternoons. The mid week interval is expected to be a time of transition, as the transient, early week high pressure ridge slowly gives way to moist, southerly air flow.

At this time, it appears that a large Gulf of Alaska trough of low pressure will become the dominant atmospheric circulation feature beginning later next week. As a result, clouds and rainfall may eventually move into Washington from southwest to northeast. Depending upon when that happens, there could be some very warm conditions in eastern parts of the state late in the period. In fact, their warmest weather of the year is possible, as highs could climb to 70 degrees if the necessary factors align just right. In any case, warmer temperatures are anticipated for the region, even though western highs may ultimately be tempered by the thickening clouds. Snowmelt and rainfall driven flooding will again become a possibility by next weekend and beyond, but severe or extreme weather is not generally expected. All in all, a fairly wide range of conditions are forecast during this outlook period. While such a varied pattern may seem chaotic, I can assure you that it is no joke. It's just springtime in Washington.
