Stormy and Mild Through the Period

Washington's weather see-saw looks to continue in the near future, as we revert back to a mild and very stormy pattern. In sharp contrast to the calm, cold, and stagnant Thanksgiving Holiday conditions, the coming week will be much warmer, as our concerns shift from poor air quality and chilly temperatures to potentially heavy western rainfall and periodically gusty winds. Following a slightly milder weekend, even higher temperatures (by December standards) should arrive for next week, as a parade of wet and breezy storms slam into the state. Some areas like the Tri-Cities and Walla Walla may reach 60 degrees around the middle of next week. While abundant precipitation is expected in the coming days, much of it is likely to be rainfall, even in the mountains. Later next week, we may begin to shift toward a slightly cooler and less stormy, albeit still unsettled weather pattern. Initially, the transition is expected to be most noticeable in the mountains, since the incoming upper level cold air will still have Pacific Ocean, and not arctic origins. The associated moisture and atmospheric mixing may keep the lowlands from becoming too cold. Luckily, this next pattern could be a good snow producer for the mountains.
