Just in time for the beginning of climatological spring, chilly weather is forecast for much of the upcoming outlook period, which begs the question: Where was this weather when we needed it during the winter? There could be multiple critical mornings for advanced orchards during the next seven days, with Sunday and Wednesday being of particular concern. East of the Cascades, widespread 20s are expected for lows on those mornings, with teens possible in colder areas. March may be coming in like a lion this year, or at least like a cub.

Breezy weather on Saturday morning will allow dry air to filter into Washington from the north. With clear skies likely by Sunday morning, areas with light winds could be quite cold. Highs should rebound nicely during the day, although conditions are expected to remain cool relative to much of February. A weak weather system may bring light rain or perhaps snow to some areas early next week, before cooler and drier air arrives on Tuesday morning thanks to northerly winds. Wednesday morning could again be very cold in the 20s or even teens in eastern and central areas. Strong warming is expected later next week, as many locations surge into the 60s by next Friday. Overall, the coming seven days will be fairly dry, as we experience what may be winter's last gasp.
