The question posed last Friday concerned the chances for a White Christmas in 2014. For most Washingtonians, the answer remains the same: It would be best to have Bing Crosby ready to go in the DVD player. As we suspected earlier, the vast majority of the precipitation from the Christmas Eve system will have departed prior to the arrival of the cold air and a potential transition to snow.

A disturbance dropping in from the northwest should bring some western rain and eastern breezes to the state on Christmas Eve. Although western showers could linger into Christmas morning, somewhat drier weather is expected through early Friday, before another storm potentially impacts Washington on Saturday. By Sunday, a cooler and drier northerly air flow should take hold over our area. As high pressure builds into the region, calmer conditions are likely to prevail next week.

Temperatures
  • Slightly cooler, but still above normal from Christmas Eve through Saturday.
  • Cooler from Sunday into early next week.
  • Possibly warmer later next week.
