Cool and Unsettled This Weekend; Becoming Much Warmer Later Next Week

The comfortable respite from the hot and dry weather will continue this weekend, before temperatures rebound strongly next week.

As Friday's cool upper low departs the region, northwesterly air flow will supply a feed of pleasant ocean air into Washington. Although some areas will have a slight chance of showers this weekend, many locations will experience little more than some clouds and breezes, along with mild temperatures.

Although a slight chance of showers will linger in western areas early next week, the trend area-wide will be toward drier and eventually hotter weather. In fact, a heat wave is quite possible by later next week. Significant uncertainty remains about the ultimate magnitude of the upcoming hot spell, but widespread 90s are not out of the question by next Friday. Overall, this period will feature a major climb from below normal to well above normal temperatures.
