AgWeatherNet Weekly Weather Outlook for March 15 to 21, 2014

Rain in the West by Sunday; Slightly Cooler Early Next Week

Nic Loyd, Meteorologist, 509-786-9357
Gerrit Hoogenboom, Director, 509-786-9371

Rain will begin to clip northwestern Washington on Saturday, before moving southward across most western areas from Saturday night into Sunday. Locally heavy totals are possible from Bellingham to the North Cascades, although much of western Washington will receive less rainfall for a shorter duration. Eastern border areas around Pullman and Spokane will also have a chance of rain or showers by Sunday evening, although central Washington will stay mainly dry due to strong shadowing from the mountains. Otherwise, it should be a breezy and mild weekend, especially in eastern areas.

Monday will be a windy day, as cooler air drops into the state behind the weekend weather system. Lingering showers will be likely for the mountains, and possible for most areas except central Washington. Drier and increasingly warm day-time weather will return by mid to late week, although Tuesday morning could be quite cool due to clearing skies and calming conditions. Another fairly weak storm is likely to affect the Northwest later next week, with a chance of rain or showers by Thursday or Friday. Unlike this weekendÂ’s rainfall, the next system seems better suited for more evenly distributed showers, even in central Washington. Amounts should still be rather modest. However, breezy conditions and cooling day-time temperatures are likely with the return of unsettled weather late next week and into next weekend.
