AgWeatherNet Weekly Weather Outlook for December 14 to 20, 2013

Milder This Weekend With A Chance of Rain in the North; Cooler Later Next Week

Nic Loyd, Meteorologist, 509-786-9357
Gerrit Hoogenboom, Director, 509-786-9371

The weather through the middle of next week will be dominated by the struggle between a ridge of high pressure trying to build in from the southwest, and a strong jet stream that will be streaming into Canada just to the north of Washington. As a result of the relatively warm air mass and westerly flow, milder conditions are likely through most of the period. The tougher forecast question will be the amount of rainfall for western Washington. Storms are likely to clip the region, which should bring periodic rainfall to northwestern parts of the state. However, a strong rain shadow will likely keep central and possibly eastern Washington dry for much of the time. A more organized system may move through Washington around the middle of next week, which could be followed by a return to somewhat cooler weather later next week.
