Mild on Saturday and Becoming Windy on Sunday; Cooler Next Week

Saturday will be another pleasant day, as most areas outside of the western Washington inversion will remain mostly sunny and mild. However, changes will begin later on Sunday, as a weather system drops south out of Canada and clips eastern Washington. A brisk northeast wind will be the predominant impact of the mostly dry Sunday night frontal passage, although areas near the Idaho border will see clouds and a slight chance of showers. The wind should be enough to finally mix out the western inversion, which may actually increase daytime temperatures in spite of the cold air advection. However, recently warm areas of eastern Washington will experience much cooler daytime highs early next week. By Tuesday, highs will only be in the mid 40s to 50s in most places.

As dry air feeds into the region, the potential for cold mornings will return. Initially, a windy and well mixed atmosphere will keep low temperatures relatively mild on Monday morning. However, as a ridge builds back into the region, the potential exists for some very cold mornings around next Tuesday or Wednesday. While many areas, especially in the east, are likely to drop below freezing, the coldest areas may bottom out in the upper teens. By later in the week, it appears that the persistent ridge will finally break down, and allow for a somewhat more active pattern. The details remain highly uncertain, but the recent very dry period may finally end around next Thursday, at least in western areas. As a result of the increasingly unsettled conditions, temperatures are likely to increase by the end of next week, especially at night.
