A major transition to cool and unsettled weather is likely for early next week.

Saturday will be another hot and sunny day across all of the state except for the coast. However, changes begin on Sunday, as rain showers and slightly cooler air moves into western Washington. Hot weather will continue in the east, although a chance of showers and possibly thunderstorms will develop later in the day, as a cold front approaches the region. Much of the action with the first storm should occur from early Sunday afternoon to Monday morning. High temperatures this weekend in the west will be in the 80s on Saturday and 70s on Sunday, with lows in the 50s to low 60s. In central areas, highs will be in the upper 80s to mid 90s, with low temperatures in the upper 50s to mid 60s. In the east, highs will be in the mid 80s to mid 90s, with lows in the mid 50s to low 60s.

A trough of low pressure and westerly air flow will bring cool, unsettled, and breezy conditions to Washington for at least the early part of next week. By Tuesday, high temperatures will be down in the 60s and 70s in most areas, with lows in the 40s and 50s. Slight day-time warming is possible later in the week, especially in eastern areas. However, another cool system may approach the region as early as next weekend. Although the coming days will not be continuously wet or stormy, the Northwest will certainly be entering a more changeable and autumn-like time period as we progress later into September.
