Dry and very warm weather is expected this weekend, as a ridge of high pressure builds over the region. On Saturday, it should be warm nearly everywhere in the state. By Sunday, cooling should arrive at the coast and in southern parts of western Washington, while even hotter air is forecast to enter eastern Washington. High temperatures this weekend will be in the 70s to mid 80s in the west, with lows in the upper 40s to 50s. In central areas, highs will be in the mid 80s to mid 90s, with low temperatures in the 50s to low 60s. In the east, highs will be in the 80s to mid 90s, with lows in the upper 40s to 50s.

As a deep upper level low pressure system digs off the coast early next week, a chance of showers and thunderstorms will overspread the area. On Monday, the quasi-stationary storm will be cut off from the jet, allowing it to wobble around the eastern Pacific through mid week. Initially, the low may not be close enough for anything more than isolated storms. Therefore, while it will be cooler next week in western areas, the degree of cooling remains in question for eastern areas. Most likely, the low will finally traverse through or just north of the state next Thursday or Friday, bringing temperatures back down to near normal and increasing the chance of showers. However, dry and hot weather may return next weekend, as another ridge builds over the Northwest.

Through the middle of next week, eastern areas around Pullman and Spokane should experience highs in the 80s, with lows in the upper 40s to 50s. Central areas will climb into the 80s during the day, with low temperatures in the 50s to mid 60s. Interior western areas will see highs in the 70s, and lows in the upper 40s to 50s. Most areas should experience more seasonal temperatures by Thursday and Friday.
