Following a relatively cool week, much warmer weather will make a temporary but marked resurgence this weekend. Saturday should be a mostly sunny and calm day, except for a few instability clouds bubbling up over the mountains. Southerly flow ahead of an approaching upper low will transport increasingly warm and unstable air into the region on Sunday. While western areas will remain similar to or slightly cooler than Saturday, the heat will peak in eastern areas on Sunday, as a slight chance of showers or even thunderstorms develops in western and central areas. High temperatures this weekend will generally be in the 70s in the west, with lows in the mid 40s to 50s. In the east, highs will be in the upper 70s to 80s on Saturday, and mid 80s to low 90s on Sunday, as low temperatures warm from the mid 40s to mid 50s on Saturday morning to the mid 50s to mid 60s by Monday morning.

As the slow moving storm spins toward the coast early next week, the threat for showers and possibly thunderstorms will increase and spread eastward across the state. Heat will linger into Monday in the east, with significant cooling by mid week, as the main weather system finally crosses over Washington. Although the risk for storms will generally decrease from west to east after early next week, the best chance for rainfall will be Tuesday into at least Wednesday. High temperatures are expected to be in the 60s to low 70s in the west for much of the week. In eastern areas around Pullman and Spokane, highs should drop from the upper 70s to low 80s early in the week to the 60s by Wednesday or Thursday. Central areas will fall from the upper 70s to 80s early to the upper 60s to 70s by mid to late week. Low temperatures should be in the 50s and 60s early, with cooling later in the period. The storm should finally depart the area by Friday. The main headline next week will be another quick transition back to cooler weather by Wednesday, with some recovery by week's end.
