AgWeatherNet Weekly Weather Outlook for April 13 to 19, 2013

Becoming Colder with High Frost Risk From Sunday Morning Into Early Next Week

Nic Loyd, Meteorologist, 509-786-9357
Gerrit Hoogenboom, Director, 509-786-9371

The frost risk will be high from Sunday to Tuesday mornings, with low temperatures east of the Cascades ranging from the low to mid 20s in colder areas that are clear and wind sheltered to the 30s elsewhere. Although there is a chance of frost in the colder areas on Saturday morning, strong wind will keep most areas above freezing. Winds may keep temperatures above critical levels into Sunday morning in the Tri-Cities area as well.

Otherwise, a potent, quick moving weather system will barrel through Washington early on Saturday morning, as rain changes to showers in western Washington and very windy conditions begin in areas east of the Cascades. Winter like conditions will bring a few inches of snow to the Cascades, while unstable air could produce an isolated thunderstorm in western Washington on Saturday. In the wake of the storm, unsettled and chilly weather will dominate from Sunday through early next week. Showers will be possible almost anywhere, and most prevalent during the day, although heavy precipitation amounts are not expected. The showers could contain rain or even wet snow. Highs will be mostly in the upper 40s to 50s. Growers need to be prepared for frost protection from Sunday through at least Tuesday morning. Although lows east of the Cascades will average in the upper 20s to mid 30s, colder areas could fall into the low 20s. Warming and drying conditions will commence by the middle of next week, as a ridge of high pressure builds into the Northwest.
