AgWeatherNet Weekly Weather Outlook for March 16 to 22, 2013

Becoming Windy and Cooler This Weekend; Widespread Frost on Monday Morning

Nic Loyd, Meteorologist, 509-786-9357
Gerrit Hoogenboom, Director, 509-786-9371

The winds of change will usher in cooler air this weekend, as a cold front crosses the state on Saturday evening. In addition to a brief shot of rain in western Washington on Saturday, the quick moving system will bring winter back to the mountains, with tumbling temperatures and light snowfall. Sunday will be a cooler day in eastern areas, with a lingering chance of showers in western areas and around Pullman and Spokane. However, central Washington will be mostly sunny and breezy. A weak storm may cross Washington in northwesterly flow on Monday, before the flow turns southwesterly in advance of the next system. The wettest storm of the period will impact the area on Tuesday and Wednesday. There could be significant rain in parts of the lowlands and rain or snow in the mountains. Even central Washington could see some rainfall around mid next week, along with windy conditions. By later next week, conditions should dry out as the mid week storm departs. However, northerly flow will allow breezy and cool weather to persist. By next weekend, a ridge of high pressure may bring dry and warmer weather. Lows next week will generally be in the upper 20s to 30s, while highs will average in the upper 40s to mid 50s. Overall, next week will be an unsettled and cool period, especially compared to mild temperatures of this past week.
