Showers and Cooler on Saturday

There will be scattered showers on Saturday in western Washington, followed by a chance of showers at times through Tuesday, with generally cool temperatures. Temperatures in the upper 50s to 60s will warm to the 70s by mid to late next week. East of the Cascades, scattered showers are likely along with a chance of thunderstorms in many areas on Saturday, and then showers are possible through Tuesday. Saturday and Tuesday look to be cool days, with more seasonal weather on Sunday and Monday, and potentially much warmer temperatures by later next week.

A closed low pressure system spinning west of the Washington coast will bring unsettled weather to the region this weekend as it wobbles in the eastern Pacific. Moist and unstable southerly flow ahead of the upper level low will give a good chance of showers on Saturday, along with cooler temperatures due to moisture and clouds. Sunday may be slightly warmer and drier as the low retrogrades slightly westward and away from us, although showers remain a possibility in western Washington. With hot air to the east over the northern Rockies, and cool air to the west over the ocean, Washington will be in the middle of a squeeze play this weekend with a strong temperature gradient present across the state. As the low transitions into an upper trough, it will progress inland and cause more showers and cool weather around Tuesday, while the southerly flow will change to a westerly flow. Following a mild Monday, Tuesday will be a cool and breezy day area wide. Wednesday will be a transition day featuring warmer but still comfortable conditions. By mid to late next week, high pressure is expected to build into the region, bringing less active and potentially hot conditions to the state.
